No Tequila Zine Review of "13 de luxe" - July 1999
Adam West "13 de luxe"
Now this is rock and roll! Jake translates raw sexuality into fluid tunes (no pun intended). These guys kick ass and take no
names. Cool wah guitar work and original drum styles keep you on your toes as Jake just fuckin dishes out vocals that take your
breath away. ".357" is heavy on bass and light on guitar which is opposite of what we are all used to but it works in a way that
garnered the guys two WAMMIES. After "357" you are thrust into "Vanilla" that starts out with guitar speak that almost takes over the
song as the bass takes back seat... the changes are swift and the guitar solo is finely tuned. The cd takes you for a walk on the wild
side but I have to question the last song, "13", which is a 13:13 interlude into what appears to be the seedy underside of someone's
fucked up maybe hungover or just demented mentality. I've never heard Adam West put out a song like this and I just can't get into
it... the beginning is okay but as you near the end it is just so bizarre, so left-field, so LSD-ish I begin to feel like I'm on a major head
trip... what's up with this guys? I still highly recommend the cd, after all it is only one song I don't care for and who knows maybe
you miss the days of acid and groovieness..
